What we collect and why

Email address: to log you in and to send you a password-reset link when you ask for one. It is never shown to other users and we do not send marketing.
Date of birth: to confirm you are 18 or older. Other users only ever see your age in years, never the date.
Gender (male or female): shown with your age to people you are matched with and to your friends, and used to honour gender preferences: you are only paired with people whose preference includes your gender, and vice versa.
Username: the only name other people see.
Interests, language, age and gender preferences: to find you matches. Text and video searches are separate pools.
Password: stored only as a one-way hash (Argon2id). We cannot read it.
Messages: the text you send in conversations and friend threads, so the other person can read them and so a moderator can review a report.
Photos: in friend threads and random chats, only visible to the two of you (and a moderator reviewing a report). Photos from a random chat are deleted when it ends, unless the chat was reported.
Video calls: are not recorded, stored or watched by us. Video travels directly between your two devices; when your networks do not allow that it passes through our relay server, encrypted, without being kept. The only image we keep is a single still of the other person's video attached by someone who reports them during a call.
Reports and blocks: who reported or blocked whom, and why, to keep people safe and to keep blocked people apart.
IP address: kept for at most one hour in a rate limiter to stop abuse (too many logins, sign-ups or reset requests). It is not stored with your account.

What other users see

Your username, your age in years, your gender, and the interests you share with them. Nothing else: not your email, birth date, or anything you told us at sign-up.

Cookies

One cookie, feelsonder_session, keeps you logged in for 30 days. It is HttpOnly, sent only to feelsonder, and contains a random token, not your data. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

How long we keep things

Your account data stays as long as your account exists. Conversation transcripts are kept after a conversation ends so that a report can be reviewed later; photos sent in random chats are deleted when the chat ends unless it was reported. Friend-thread messages and photos are deleted when either of you unfriends, blocks, or deletes their account. Login sessions expire after 30 days; password-reset links after one hour.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from your home page. This removes your email, username, password, interests, preferences, login sessions, friendships and photos, and ends any conversation you are in. Transcripts of past conversations are kept for moderation with your name replaced by a placeholder, so that reports about them can still be reviewed.

Moderation

Automated checks look at messages for spam. Humans only read a conversation, or look at a report's video still, when someone in it files a report. Reports for sexual content from three or more different people restrict who you can be matched with. Moderation decisions are recorded so they can be reviewed.

Who we share data with

Nobody, except the service providers that run the site (hosting, database, and the email provider that delivers reset links), and authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell or trade personal data.

Your rights

You can see your username, gender and age, change your interests and preferences, and delete your account, all on your home page. Username, gender and date of birth cannot be edited after sign-up. To ask for a copy of your data, or for anything else about privacy, write to privacy@feelsonder.net.

Changes

If this notice changes, the date at the top changes. Significant changes will be announced when you log in.
